Sclerotherapy

 Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is used for the treatment of unsightly or painful varicose or spider veins. A tiny needle is used to inject medication into the vein causing it to shut down and be absorbed by the body. After a thorough physical examination and consultation, typically 2-6 sessions are required. The procedure itself only takes about 20-30 minutes each visit. Most people return to their normal routines immediately with spider vein treatments or within 48 hours post varicose vein treatment.  Compression therapy is required after therapy to maintain your result. Treated veins typically take anywhere from 2 weeks to 4 months to resolve, depending on their size.

In the video above from the Cleveland Clinic, you can see the immediate results of sclerotherapy for spider veins. We perform this procedure at Fresh You Clinic in Bancroft with Dr. White. Varicose veins are treated in a similar manner.

Varicose vein consultation and treatment with sclerotherapy is covered by OHIP in cases where the veins are large enough and symptomatic. Request a referral from your family doctor to Dr. Ashley White for consultation and assessment. The referral form for your family doctor or nurse practitioner can be found here:
